Read Act Administrator Designation Requirements

Evidence-based training designed for K-3 principals and administrators in the science of reading generally includes a minimum of 20 hours. However, for a K-3 principal or administrator with a “READ Act - Teacher Designation” on their license they are only required to complete  a minimum of 5 hours of training.

The Colorado Department of Education (CDE) offers free training options for principals and administrators to meet this requirement. Select the option that best meets your needs below to register:

Principals/Administrators with a Teacher Read Act Designation on their license are required to complete a 5 hour training.

Principals/Administrators without a Teacher Read Act Designation on their license are required to complete a 20 hour training.

A certificate of completion will be awarded upon successful completion of the CDE READ Act training.

To add the READ Act Designation to your License, Certificates of Completion must be uploaded to the Colorado Online Licensing system (COOL).

  • ​​​​​To upload your certificate of completion to COOL: 
    • Make sure that you have the documents that you wish to upload saved to your computer.
    • Login to COOL
    • Click the button that corresponds to the action you wish to complete: (i.e. "add designation")
    • Follow the prompts on your computer to select the relevant document(s) to upload.
