Read Act Designation Requirements

Evidence-Based Reading Training Requirements

The Thompson School District (TSD) relies on READ Act funding to provide resources that support our schools. Therefore TSD must comply with all READ Act requirements to remain eligible to receive funding.

Additionally, amendments to the READ Act require that, at a minimum, all K-3 teachers who provide literacy instruction, 4-12 reading interventionists, and school administrators (including principals) must take training (SB19-199 and SB22-004).

Beyond the state minimum, TSD requires the following educators to complete READ Act training as a condition of employment:

  • Elementary/K-8 Principals and Assistant Principals. (20 Hours)
  • Principals with READ Act-Teacher Designations on their License. (5 Hours)
  • Early Childhood Teachers (EC) (45 Hours)
  • K-5 Classroom Teachers (45 hours)
  • Learning Center Teachers (EC/Elem.) (45 Hours)
  • Elementary ELD teachers (45 Hours)
  • EC-12 Reading Interventionists (45 Hours)
  • And Elementary Instructional Coaches (45 Hours)
