Options for Completing the ELPD Requirement

What is the English Learner PD Requirement?

Educators must demonstrate completion of training or professional development activities equivalent to 45 clock/contact hours or three semester hours in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CLD) Education. Educators with previous CLD training or past experience can count it toward meeting the:

  1. new English Learner Professional Development requirement,
    and
  2. the 90 clock hours of professional development requirement for renewing their educator license.

There are multiple options for educators to meet this requirement:

  1. For teachers who may have completed some relevant professional development/coursework: Complete CDE's English Learner PD Standards Matrix.
  2. For teachers who need to complete some, or all, EL related professional development/coursework: CDE offers self paced WIDA workshops (outside EL PD) - completing these can satisfy some or all of the 45 hours of English Learner Professional Development required for license renewal and would need to be reported using the Matrix (linked above).

  3. Educators also have the option to meet the EL PD requirement by completing an educator preparation program.
